School Sued for Lack of Proper Emergency Exit Lighting Resulting in Fall

WKW settled a case against a school for failing to have emergency exit lighting, leading to our client’s fall outside of the school’s gym. While attending her grandchildren’s basketball game, the power went out at the school. Attendees were told to leave the gym. Our client tripped on stairs while heading out of the gym, which we alleged should have been illuminated with battery-powered emergency exit lighting. WKW deposed eyewitnesses who saw the fall and confirmed how dark it was outside the gym. After filing suit, WKW was able to help our client recover from her shoulder injury. The school also corrected the lighting issue.
