What qualifications should an aviation attorney have? Well, legally there is no specific extra qualifications that an aviation attorney would need to have to handle your case as long as it’s an attorney admitted to the Bar and practicing in your state.

However, there are some things that you would probably want to look for in an attorney who is going to handle an aviation case, and one of the obvious questions is is that attorney a current pilot. Some of the other questions would be does the pilot have an instrument rating, do they have a multi-engine rating, and those are some of the things that you would want to look for in an aviation attorney.

Those kinds of qualifications are sometimes key because cases can become complex. There can be terminology questions that maybe an attorney who is not a pilot would struggle with, like trying to understand what a pilot would be thinking or doing in the cockpit. That can sometimes come easier to an attorney is also a pilot.

Those are some of the things that you would want to look for and some of the questions you’d want to ask of an attorney who you think would be a good choice to handle an aviation case.
