Wilson Kehoe Winingham Scholarship Winner: Joey Keller

Our firm is pleased to be able to offer a scholarship to a deserving law student at the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. This year was the first year we made the scholarship available, and we look forward to providing the scholarship for several years to come.

We’d like to introduce you to the 2015 winner of the WiKW scholarship, Joey Keller!

What do you like best about the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law?

Over the last year, IU McKinney has become my home away from home, and my fellow students have become my family. McKinney is a close-knit community where we encourage each other and genuinely want to see each other succeed. I really value and enjoy the welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

What do you consider your greatest academic achievement?

My greatest academic achievement is getting where I am today. I was able to be the first in my family to attend college and now the first to go on to law school. I believe that my success in my first year of law school is so unbelievably special to me. I feel that I have achieved the impossible. I have done more than anyone ever thought I could.

How has this scholarship or award impacted you?

This scholarship has a profound impact on me and my legal education. I am a first generation college graduate and law student. I come from poverty and have faced obstacle after obstacle on my journey to obtain my legal degree. This scholarship will not only help ease my financial burden and honor my hard work and perseverance, but it will also provide encouragement to continue my success. It feels very special to be acknowledged for my efforts.

What are you plans after graduation?

I am unsure of what I want to do. Right now, as an intern at the Federal District Court, I am exploring and learning with the goal of finding a passion or calling in the legal field.

Congratulations Joey! We look forward to following your career and wish you nothing but success.
