What Is Loss of Consortium?

Request a Free Consultation

Transcript

Consortium is a lawyer’s term for a very basic concept. Consortium is available as an element of damages to a married couple, a husband and a wife, and it basically means the services that a husband or a wife has lost as a result of their spouse’s injury. This is both monetary and mental or mental anguish based services.

It includes everything from the value that your husband provides by washing the dishes to the value that your wife may provide when she used to take walks with you before her injuries or the value that was once provided by babysitting the children. Sex is another part of consortium.

It’s basically the relationship that a spouse has with his or her companion and how that was lost as a result of the injuries. It’s an element of damages that a plaintiff is able to collect.
