GM Recalls 20 Million Cars in 2014

June 16, 2014 Automobile Accidents, Products Liability

keysYesterday, we wrote a blog post about the 16.5 million cars that GM has recalled in 2014. Shortly after our post, GM announced another recall for faulty ignition switches. The most recent recall brought the 2014 total to 20 million cars recalled. By comparison, GM has recalled twice the amount they sold worldwide last year and American consumers are expected to purchase 16.1 million new cars and trucks industrywide this year. The seven models that are included in the most recent recall include:

  • Buick LaCrosse (2005-2009)
  • Chevrolet Impala (2006-2014)
  • Cadillac Deville (2000-2005)
  • Cadillac DTS (2004-2011)
  • Buick Lucerne (2006-2011)
  • Buick Regal LS and GS (2004-2005)
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo (2006-2008)

The ignition switch recall may inadvertently move out of the “run” position if the key is carrying extra weight and/or is jarred. This could disengage the power steering and may cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. If you own one of the recalled cars, you’re advised to contact your local dealer to schedule repairs. If you believe you’ve been injured in an accident due to a faulty GM ignition switch, contact our office. We’d be happy to provide you with a free case evaluation to discuss your specific injuries and accident.
