A Megabus traveling from Chicago to Atlanta crashed on I-65 in Johnson County. According to a report from Indy Star, the accident occurred in an area where construction vehicles were present and a traffic backup was taking place. The Megabus failed to stop before colliding with a semi truck ahead of it. The impact of the collision set off a chain reaction in which the semi struck an SUV, which then struck a car. In all, nineteen of the sixty-three passengers were injured and transported to area hospitals. The injuries were all described as minor.
This was the third Megabus crash on I-65 between Indianapolis and Louisville since October. The Indiana State Police have said that the investigation into the accident may take several weeks. Already, tests given on the Megabus driver after the crash have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor. The bus was reportedly due to be tested in order to determine if mechanical issues may have contributed. Megabus is cooperating fully with the investigation.
It is not always immediately clear what causes a motor vehicle accident. It may be driver negligence, mechanical issues, defective products, weather, or road conditions. It may even be a combination of factors. Whatever the cause, sometimes even “minor” injuries can have long-lasting physical and emotional consequences. It is important that the treatment of injuries begins immediately and lasts until full rehabilitation has been achieved.
