On June 6, 2014, a panel of federal judges ordered all testosterone product lawsuits filed in federal courts to be centralized in the U.S. District Court for the Northern Illinois before one judge as part of a multidistrict litigation (MDL).
The market for testosterone replacement drugs is worth $1.6 billion annually. The consolidation will encompass all suits against makers of testosterone-replacement pills, including Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co., the maker of AndroGel and Axiron.
According to a November 2013 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), there was reported 30 percent rise in risk for stroke, heart attack, and death in men age 60 and older who had been prescribed testosterone.
