Four days after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement that they would investigate the safety of testosterone replacement drugs, five men filed lawsuits in federal court in Chicago against Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and AbbVie, Inc., manufacturer of AndroGel. The men claim the company hid the dangers of using the testosterone replacement drug.
These men, ages 50 to 63, claim they suffered severe injuries after using AndroGel. Three men suffered heart attacks. One of the men suffered a stroke and the last suffered a mini-stroke.
A November 2013 study, published in the Journal of American Medical Association, reported a 30 percent rise in the risk for stroke, heart attack and death in men age 60 and older who had been prescribed testosterone replacement drugs.
